{"id":8,"date":"2009-06-18T08:24:52","date_gmt":"2009-06-18T15:24:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.landspeople.net\/abi\/?p=8"},"modified":"2009-06-18T08:30:03","modified_gmt":"2009-06-18T15:30:03","slug":"an-easy-baby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.landspeople.net\/abi\/?p=8","title":{"rendered":"An Easy Baby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">I am often reminded about what an easy baby she is. \u00c2\u00a0This happened recently while I was responding to another parent&#8217;s email on a mailing list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The original email:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My newborn, Henry, (almost 3 weeks old) sleeps great if I am carrying him\u00c2\u00a0in\u00c2\u00a0the sling. \u00c2\u00a0But as soon as I put him down in the bassinet or within 15\u00c2\u00a0minutes of putting him down, he wakes up and fuses. \u00c2\u00a0This isn&#8217;t so much of\u00c2\u00a0a\u00c2\u00a0problem during the day when I can carry him. \u00c2\u00a0But at night I am having the\u00c2\u00a0hardest time sleeping because he won&#8217;t sleep without being held or carried.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Last night I tried walking with him in the sling for about 20 minutes after\u00c2\u00a0feeding him and then putting him down. \u00c2\u00a0This worked for 2 of our night time\u00c2\u00a0feedings, but the other ones it didn&#8217;t work for. \u00c2\u00a0Plus by the time I nurse\u00c2\u00a0him and walk him it is practically time for his next feeding, leaving me\u00c2\u00a0very little sleep. \u00c2\u00a0Help, please<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 8px;\">My response:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I had a similar issue with my daughter the first night we came home. \u00c2\u00a0She would fall asleep in my arms, but wake up within 10-20 minutes of being put in the cradle. \u00c2\u00a0I did not get much sleep that night. \u00c2\u00a0For the next few nights, I slept with her on my abdomen. \u00c2\u00a0She slept in two hour increments &#8211; but at least I could sleep too. \u00c2\u00a0(I found that I was fine \/ functional after sleeping in two hour increments so long as I got many such sleep increments in during the night.) \u00c2\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>At her next check-up, my pediatrician strongly discouraged us from allowing the baby to sleep face down on my abdomen . . . so I only did this for less than a week . . . but she subsequently slept fine when I put her down. \u00c2\u00a0(Interestingly, she did not have any day\/ night confusion.) \u00c2\u00a0Ultimately, I am rather confused about whether allowing children to sleep face down is truly a problem or not since several postpartum professionals have advised us that the risks associated with sleeping face down are overblown, and they disagree with our pediatrician&#8217;s advice. . . please do your own due diligence before you decide to let your baby sleep face down.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There you have it folks -sleeping in two hour increments is in fact easy!
